Some customers may comment on a door trim buzz noise during radio speaker operation.

Correction

GM Engineering is attempting to determine the root cause of the above condition. GM Engineering has a need to obtain information first hand during diagnosis and BEFORE repair. As a result, this information will be used by engineering to "root cause" the customer's concern and develop/validate a field fix. Please follow the instructions below regarding the requested information.

If the customer's concern can be duplicated, document the following information in the repair order:

  1. From which area of the door does the buzz originate?
  2. When the buzz is detected, document the following radio settings:
  3. • volume
    • bass
    • midrange
    • treble
  4. Based on the location of the buzz, remove the door trim and search for potential causes. Inspect the speaker connection for a secure fit. Inspect the area behind the door trim panel and insulation cover for loose fittings or components. If the cause is isolated, perform necessary corrective actions to alleviate the buzz.
  5. For dealers located in SE Michigan ONLY between 7:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. - contact the engineer (Matt Berg) prior to making any repairs. For all other cases, if the speaker is found to be defective proceed with the repair. Submit a Field Product Report (refer to bulletin 02-00-89-002F) containing all information requested in this bulletin as well as the diagnosis and repair.
