Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 1871896  Size: SH
  1. Drain the fuel from the fuel filter. Refer to Water-in-Fuel Draining.
  2. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement.
  3. Remove the heater inlet hose bracket nut (4) from the fuel filter adapter stud (1).
  4. Remove the heater inlet hose bracket from the stud and position the hose out of the way.

  6. Reposition the fuel filter hose clamps (1 and 2).
  7. Remove the fuel filter hoses from the fuel filter adapter.

  9. Disconnect the fuel filter heater wiring pigtail (1) from the engine wiring harness electrical connector.
  10. Disconnect the water in fuel sensor wiring pigtail (2) from the engine wiring harness electrical connector.

  12. Remove the fuel filter bracket bolts (1).

  13. Object Number: 1871898  Size: SH
  14. Remove the fuel filter and bracket assembly.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1871898  Size: SH
  1. Position the fuel filter and bracket assembly to the upper valve rocker arm cover.
  2. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1871897  Size: SH
  3. Install the fuel filter bracket bolts (1).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  5. Connect the fuel filter heater wiring pigtail (1) to the engine wiring harness electrical connector.
  6. Connect the water in fuel sensor wiring pigtail (2) to the engine wiring harness electrical connector.

  7. Object Number: 1871635  Size: SH
  8. Install the fuel filter hoses to the fuel filter adapter.
  9. Position the fuel filter hose clamps (1 and 2).

  10. Object Number: 1871896  Size: SH
  11. Position the heater inlet hose and install the heater inlet hose bracket to the stud.
  12. Install the heater inlet hose bracket nut (4) to the fuel filter adapter stud (1).
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  14. Prime the fuel system. Refer to Fuel System Priming.
  15. Start the engine. If the engine stalls, repeat the above step.
  16. Once the engine starts, inspect for fuel leaks.
