Preliminary Procedures

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
2. Remove the transfer case shield, if equipped. Refer to Transfer Case Shield Replacement.

Transfer Case Drain Plug

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

Procedure

1. Allow the transfer case to drain completely.
2. Apply sealant GM P/N 12346004, (Canadian P/N 10953480), or equivalent, to the plug threads.

Tip
When performing the following procedure, use only hand tools to remove and install the drain plug.

Tighten
18 N·m (13 lb ft)

Transfer Case Fill Plug

Procedure

1. Fill the transfer case to the bottom of the fill plug hole with DEXRON® VI GM P/N 88861003 (Canadian P/N 88861004).
2. Apply sealant GM P/N 12346004, (Canadian P/N 10953480), or equivalent, to the plug threads.

Tip
When performing the following procedure, use only hand tools to remove and install the fill plug.

Tighten
18 N·m (13 lb ft)
