Removal Procedure

Caution: Use care when handling the coolant sensor. Damage to the coolant sensor will affect the operation of the fuel control system.


    Object Number: 1696914  Size: SH
  1. Drain the cooling system to a level below the engine cooling temperature (ECT) sensor. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling.
  2. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (2) from the ECT sensor.

  3. Object Number: 855737  Size: SH
  4. Remove the ECT sensor.

Installation Procedure

Caution: Do not insert any tools into the throttle body bore in order to avoid damage to the throttle valve plate.

    Object Number: 855737  Size: SH
  1. If installing the old sensor, coat the threads with sealant GM P/N 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) or equivalent.
  2. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  3. Install the ECT sensor and tighten to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  4. Object Number: 1696914  Size: SH
  5. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (2) to the ECT sensor.
  6. Refill the cooling. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling.
