Removal Procedure

Note: Mark, sort, and organize all the components for assembly.

  1. Remove the rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement - Left Side or Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement - Right Side.
  2. Remove the rocker arms.

  3. Object Number: 480527  Size: SH
  4. Remove the rocker arm supports.

  5. Object Number: 480529  Size: SH
  6. Remove the pushrods.
  7. Clean and inspect the rocker arms and/or pushrods, if necessary. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Cleaning and Inspection.

Installation Procedure

Note: Be sure to keep parts in order. Parts must be reinstalled into the original location and position.

  1. Install the pushrods.

  2. Object Number: 480578  Size: SH

    Note: Be sure that the arrow on the rocker arm support is in the up position.

  3. Install the rocker arm supports.

  4. Object Number: 480551  Size: SH
  5. Apply lubricant to the following rocker arm contact surfaces:
  6. • Pushrod socket (1)
    • Roller pivot (2)
    • Valve stem tip (3)
    •  Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers for the correct part number.

    Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  7. Install the rocker arms as follows:
  8. 4.1. Finger start the bolt at location (1)
    4.2. Finger start the bolt at location (2)
    4.3. Finger start the bolt at location (3)
    4.4. Finger start the remaining rocker arm bolts

    Object Number: 334551  Size: SH
  9. Rotate the crankshaft balancer to position the crankshaft balancer alignment mark (1) 57-63 degrees clockwise or counterclockwise from the engine front cover alignment tab (2).
  10. Note: Once the rocker arms are installed and properly torqued, no additional valve lash adjustment is required.

  11. Tighten the rocker arm bolts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).
  12. Install the rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement - Left Side or Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement - Right Side.
