    • J 45711 Differential Side Bearing Remover - Dana 248
    • J 45900 Differential Side Bearing Installer - Dana Axles
    • DT46725 Side Bearing Installer

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the differential assembly. Refer to Differential Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 680400  Size: SH
  3. For the 8.6 inch axle and 10.5 inch axle with RPO G80, remove the differential side bearing by performing the following steps:
  4. 2.1. Install the differential assembly in a vise.
    2.2. Install the J 22888-20A  (2) and the J 8107-4 , 8.6 inch axle, or the J 8107-3 , 10.5 inch axle (1) as shown.
    2.3. Remove the differential side bearing using the J 22888-20A .
  5. Remove the differential assembly from the vise.

  7. For the 9.75 inch axle, remove the differential side bearings by performing the following steps:
  8. 4.1. Install the J 45711  (2) and the J 36597  (1) as shown.
    4.2. Remove the differential side bearing using the J 45711 and a hydraulic press.
  9. For the 10.5 inch axle without RPO G80, remove the differential side bearing cage and roller bearings from the inner bearing race.
  10. Remove the inner bearing race from the differential assembly using a suitable method that will not damage the differential case.

Installation Procedure

  1. In order to protect the differential case, install the J 8107-4 , 8.6 inch axle, or the J 36597 , 9.75 inch axle, or J 8107-3 , 10.5 inch axle, in the case on the side opposite the bearing installation.
  2. Install the bearing on top of the differential case.

  4. Install the differential side bearing onto the differential case by doing the following:
  5. 3.1. Install one of the following side bearing installers to the J 8092  (1) and place over the differential side bearing as shown:
           - For the 8.6 inch axle, use J 21784  (2)
           - For the 9.75 inch without RPO G80 or 10.5 inch axles, use J 24430 or the J 45900  (2)
           - For the 9.75 inch with RPO G80, use DT46725  (2)
    3.2. Drive the bearing onto the differential case using the J 21784 , theJ 24430 , the J 45900 , or the DT46725 and the J 8092 .
  6. Install the differential assembly. Refer to Differential Replacement .
