For 1990-2009 cars only
Removal Procedure
- Remove the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement.
- Disconnect the chassis fuel feed pipe quick connect fitting from the engine fuel feed pipe. Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service.
- Disconnect the spark plug wires (1) from the ignition coil.
- Remove the spark plug wire retainer (2) from the ignition coil bracket.
- Reposition the spark plug wires out of the way.
- Disconnect engine wiring harness electrical connector (1) from the ignition coil.
- Remove the ignition coil bolts (1) and ignition coil (2) from the bracket.
- If required, remove the lower ignition coil bracket bolt (3).
- Remove the engine wiring harness ground terminal from the ignition coil bracket.
- Remove the upper ignition coil bracket bolts (1) and bracket (2).
Note: Note the routing of the spark plug wires prior to disconnecting the wires from the ignition coil.
Installation Procedure
- If required, position the ignition coil bracket to the lower intake manifold and install the upper bolts and tighten to 12 N·m (106 lb in).
- Position the engine wiring harness ground terminal to the ignition coil bracket.
- Install the lower ignition coil bracket bolt (3) and tighten to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).
- Place the ignition coil (2) on top of the bracket and install the bolts (1) and tighten to 12 N·m (106 lb in).
- Connect engine wiring harness electrical connector (1) to the ignition coil.
- Position the spark plug wires and install the spark plug wire retainer (2) to the ignition coil bracket.
- Connect the spark plug wires (1) to the ignition coil as noted during removal.
- Connect the chassis fuel feed pipe quick connect fitting to the engine fuel feed pipe. Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service.
- Install the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement.
