Inspect for a damaged linear shift assembly.

Is the linear shift assembly damaged?

Inspect the shift cable for binding or misadjustment.

Is the shift cable binding or misadjusted?

Replace the shift cable. Refer to Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement for the 4L60-E/4L65-E transmission or to Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement for the 4L80-E/4L85-E transmission.

Replace the linear shift assembly. Refer to Linear Shift Assembly Replacement .
