Test Description

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. This step tests the primary circuit of the access panel relay.

  2. This step tests if the remote control door lock receiver is receiving and acting on an input from the transmitter.

  3. An open remote function actuator (RFA) fuse may be caused by a short to ground in the access panel actuator voltage supply circuit or a shorted access panel actuator.

Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

Shut all access panels.

Did all the panels stay closed?

Go to Step 3

Press and release each access panel button on the key fob.

Did all the access panels open?

Did any of the panels open?

  1. Place your hand on the suspect access panel relay.
  2. Press the button for the inoperative panel on the transmitter.

Did the relay click?

  1. With a scan tool, observe the Access Panel Output parameter in the body control module (BCM) Data List.
  2. Press each button on the transmitter one at a time.

Does the output state change when each button is pressed?

  1. With a scan tool, observe the Key Fob Information parameter in the remote function actuation data list.
  2. Press each access panel button on the transmitter one at a time.

Does the Scan Tool Data parameter show that the correct button was pressed?

Important: Inspect that the keyless entry transmitter is the correct model for the vehicle remote system. A wrong model transmitter may pass this test, but will not activate the vehicle remote system.

  1. Turn on the J 43241 Keyless Entry Tester.
  2. Place the transmitter on the J 43241 test pad.
  3. Press each button of the transmitter one at a time.

Does a tone sound and the green light illuminate on the J 43241 after the button is pressed?

  1. Disconnect the BCM connector.
  2. Connect a test lamp from the BCM connector relay control circuit to a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 22

  1. Remove the suspect access panel relay.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the suspect access panel relay coil supply circuit and ground.

Did the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 13

  1. Disconnect the suspect access panel actuator.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the actuator supply circuit and ground.
  3. Press the suspect access panel button on the key fob.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 12

  1. Connect a test lamp between the actuator supply circuit and the ground circuit at the actuator connector.
  2. Press the suspect access panel button on the transmitter.

Did the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 28

Test the suspect access panel relay control circuit for an open. Refer to Testing for Short to Ground and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
