J 34940 Rivet Gun

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the rear propeller shaft from the vehicle.
  3. Use a suitable tail shaft plug to minimize fluid leakage after propeller shaft removal.
  4. • For vehicles equipped with a one piece propeller shaft, refer to One-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement .
    • For vehicles equipped with a two piece propeller shaft, refer to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement .
  5. Using a 1/4 inch (6 mm) drill bit, remove the rivets from the heat shields, as necessary.

  7. Remove the exhaust tailpipe heat shield from the body panel.

  8. Object Number: 341958  Size: SH
  9. Remove three muffler heat shield rivets from the heat shield. The rear middle rivet is not easily accessible.
  10. If removal of heat shield is neccesary, then body will need to be lifted of the frame for clearance. For access to other components, repositioning of the heat shield is recommended.

  11. Object Number: 341984  Size: SH
  12. Remove the front exhaust pipe heat shield from the body panel.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 341984  Size: SH
  1. Install the front exhaust pipe heat shield to the body panel.
  2. Install the rivets to the heat shield using the J 34940 .

  3. Object Number: 341973  Size: SH
  4. Install the muffler heat shield to the body panel.
  5. Install the rivets to the heat shield using the J 34940 .

  6. Object Number: 341877  Size: SH
  7. Install the exhaust tailpipe heat shield to the body panel.
  8. Install the rivets to the heat shield using the J 34940 .
  9. Install the propeller shaft to the vehicle.
  10. • For vehicles equipped with a one piece propeller shaft, refer to One-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement .
    • For vehicles equipped with a two piece propeller shaft, refer to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement .
  11. Lower the vehicle.
