The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

If a customer comes in with a letter about Special Coverage Adjustment 07103 and has any of the concerns listed, follow the instructions below for the inspection of the idler arm bracket.

    • Free play in the steering,
    • A clunking noise in the front end,
    • A "binding" feel, and/or off-center steering wheel position.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Inspect the front end components for wear. See Document ID# 1464599 Symptoms-Suspension General Diagnosis. If the steering parts are in specification, remove the idler arm from the mounting bracket and swing it out of the way. Clean the idler arm bracket of the wax coating and inspect it for a fracture. It may be necessary to use a small mirror to inspect the top side of the bracket. If a fracture is present, contact Technical Assistance for further information.

If a fracture is NOT found, the bracket does not need to be replaced at this time. It will be necessary to re-apply the wax-based anti-corrosion compound.
