J 41240 Fan Clutch Remover and Installer

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 834218  Size: SH
  1. Remove the fan shroud bolts (1) from the top of the radiator support.
  2. Remove the fan shroud bolts (3) from the sides of the fan shroud.
  3. Remove the upper fan shroud (2).
  4. Install the tool onto the fan clutch nut.
  5. Install the J 41240 in order to secure the pulley.

  6. Remove the fan clutch assembly.
  7. Inspect the following components for cracks, distortion, or other damage:
  8. • The belt
    • The hub
    • The adapter
    • The pulley
  9. Remove the bolts from the fan clutch.
  10. Separate the fan clutch from the fan blade.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the fan clutch (2) to the fan blade (1).
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the bolts to the fan clutch.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  5. Install the fan clutch assembly to the pulley.
  6. Install the tool onto the fan clutch nut.
  7. Install the J 41240 in order to secure the pulley.

    Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 95 N·m (70 lb ft).

  8. Install the upper fan shroud (2).

  9. Object Number: 834218  Size: SH
  10. Install the fan shroud bolts (1) to the top of the radiator support.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  12. Install the fan shroud bolts (3) to the sides of the fan shroud.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 6 N·m (53 lb in).
