Was the Instrument Cluster System Check performed?

  1. Place the automatic transmission in the PARK position.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  3. Depress the brake pedal.
  4. Shift the transmission selector into each gear position.
  5. Observe the PRNDL indications.
  6. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

DId some or all of the position indications light?

  1. Disconnect the connector at the instrument cluster.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  3. Connect an unpowered test lamp between the following components:
  4. • The instrument cluster connector cavity B10 for the CKT 1020 (PNK) wire
    • Ground

Did the test lamp light?

--

Go to Step 4

  1. Disconnect the connector C1 at the park/neutral position switch.
  2. Connect a J 39200 between the following components:
  3. • The park/neutral position switch connector C1 cavity D for the CKT 150 (BLK) wire
    • Ground

Is continuity present?

  1. Locate the open in the CKT 1020 (PNK) wire between the following components:
  2. • The IP fuse block
    • The instrument cluster
  3. Repair the open in the CKT 1020 (PNK) wire between the following components:
  4. • The IP fuse block
    • The instrument cluster

Is the repair complete

Replace the instrument cluster.

  1. Locate the open in the CKT 150 (BLK) wire between the following components:
  2. • The park/neutral position switch
    • Ground G103
  3. Repair the open in the CKT 150 (BLK) wire between the following components:
  4. • The park/neutral position switch
    • Ground G103

Is the repair complete?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  2. Disconnect the connector C2 at the park/neutral position switch.
  3. Connect a voltmeter between the following components:
  4. • The park/neutral position switch connector C2 cavity A for the CKT 771 (BLK/WHT) wire
    • Ground

Is voltage present?

Connect a voltmeter between the following components:

    • The park/neutral position switch connector C2 cavity C for the CKT 776 (WHT) wire
    • Ground

Is voltage present?

  1. Locate the open or the short to ground on the CKT 771 (BLK/WHT) wire between the following components:
  2. • The instrument cluster
    • The park/neutral position switch
  3. Repair the open or the short to ground on the CKT 771 (BLK/WHT) wire between the following components:
  4. • The instrument cluster
    • The park/neutral position switch

Is the repair complete?

Connect a voltmeter between the following components:

    • The park/neutral position switch  connector C2 cavity D for the CKT 772 (YEL) wire
    • Ground

Is voltage present?

  1. Locate the open or the short to ground on the CKT 776 (WHT) wire between the following components:
  2. • The instrument cluster
    • The park/neutral position switch
  3. Repair the open or the short to ground on the CKT 776 (WHT) wire between the following components:
  4. • The instrument cluster
    • The park/neutral position switch

Is the repair complete?

Connect a voltmeter between the following components:

    • The park/neutral position switch connector C2 cavity B for the CKT 773 (GRY) wire
    • Ground

Is voltage present?

  1. Locate the open or the short to ground on the CKT 772 (YEL) wire between the following components:
  2. • The instrument cluster
    • The park/neutral position switch
  3. Repair the open or the short to ground on the CKT 772 (YEL) wire between the following components:

  1. Connect between 2 and 4 fused jumper wires between the following components:
  2. • The specified park/neutral position switch connector C2 cavities
    • Ground
  3. Observe the PRNDL indication at the instrument cluster.
  4. Repeat this procedure for each gear position. Refer to PRNDL Logic Input Test .

Are the PRNDL indications correct?

  1. Locate the open or the short to ground on the CKT 773 (GRY) wire between the following components:
  2. • The instrument cluster
    • The park/neutral position switch
  3. Repair the open or the short to ground on the CKT 773 (GRY) wire between the following components:
  4. • The instrument cluster
    • The park/neutral position switch

Is the repair complete?
