  1. Inspect the following components for cracked joints, broken welds, and corrosion damage, which could permit exhaust fumes to seep into the rear compartment or passenger compartment:
  2. • Inspect the exhaust pipes.
    • Inspect the exhaust seals.
    • Inspect the catalytic converters.
    • Inspect the mufflers.
    • Inspect the tailpipes.
  3. Inspect the exhaust system, including the heat shields. The exhaust system must be free from the following conditions:
  4. • Leaks.
    • Binding.
    • Grounding.
    • Excessive Vibration.
  5. The following conditions usually cause conditions such as leaks, binding, grounding and excessive vibration:
  6. • Loose or damaged flange bolts.
    • Loose or damaged exhaust seals.
    • Loose or damaged heat shields.
    • Loose or damaged brackets.
    • Loose or damaged pipes.
  7. Align and replace misaligned or damaged components, as necessary.
