  1. Operate the engine.
  2. Compare the actual engine coolant temperature and the temperature indicated by the instrument cluster's temperature gauge.

Are the engine coolant temperature and the indicated coolant temperature within the specified value of each other?

-1°C (30°F)

The temperature gauge functions properly.

Inspect the engine cooling system for operating conditions, as needed.

Does the temperature gauge operate properly?

  1. Disconnect the connector at the engine coolant temperature gauge sensor.
  2. Place the ignition switch in the RUN position.
  3. Connect a fused jumper wire between the engine coolant temperature gauge sensor connector, cavity A, and ground.

Does the temperature gauge indicate HOT?

Replace the engine coolant temperature gauge sensor.

Does the temperature gauge operate properly?

  1. Disconnect the connector at the instrument cluster.
  2. Connect a J 39200 between the instrument cluster connector, cavity B9, and the engine coolant temperature gauge sensor connector, cavity A, for CKT 35 (DK GRN).

Is continuity present?

Replace the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .

Does the temperature gauge operate properly?

Repair the open in CKT 35 (DK GRN) between the engine coolant temperature gauge sensor and the instrument cluster.
