Removal Procedure

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Cable Replacement (Battery Disconnect/Connect) in Engine Electrical.
  2. Recover the refrigerant from the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .

  3. Object Number: 300815 Size: SH
  4. Remove the evaporator tube from the evaporator (5).
  5. Remove the O-ring seal.
  6. Remove the radiator grille. Refer to Grille Replacement in Exterior Trim.
  7. Remove the evaporator tube from the condenser. If equipped with auxiliary A/C:
  8. 6.1. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle with safety stands.
6.2. Remove the evaporator tube from the auxiliary A/C evaporator underbody front tube assembly.
  9. Remove the O-ring seal.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the new O-ring seal.
  2. Coat the O-ring seal with 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.

  3. Object Number: 300815 Size: SH

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the evaporator tube to the condenser.
  5. Tighten
Tighten the evaporator tube to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  6. Install the radiator grille. Refer to Grille Replacement in Exterior Trim.
  7. Install the new O-ring seal.
  8. Coat the O-ring with 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.
  9. Install the evaporator tube to the evaporator (5).
  10. Tighten
Tighten the evaporator tube to 19 N·m (14 lb ft).

  11. Install the evaporator tube to the auxiliary A/C evaporator underbody front tube assembly, if equipped.
  12. Tighten
Tighten the evaporator tube to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

    8.1. Remove the safety stands.
    8.2. Lower the vehicle.

  13. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Cable Replacement (Battery Disconnect/Connect) in Engine Electrical.
  14. Recharge the refrigerant to the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  15. Inspect the system for leaks.
