Removal Procedure

  1. Set the front wheels in the straight-ahead position.
  2. Set the steering wheel in the LOCKED position.

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4. Disable the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR). Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  5. Remove the nut and the bolt from the upper to the lower steering shaft connection.
  6. Slide the lower shaft down.

  7. Remove the position sensor connector by using a suitable tool in order to pull the connector down around the right side of the steering column for accessibility.

  8. Object Number: 245335 Size: SH

Important: Do not apply force to the sensor and the bearing in a sideways direction.

  9. Remove the position sensor and bearing assembly from the steering column jacket by pulling the assembly straight out.
  10. Remove the position sensor from the clips in the bearing assembly.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the position sensor into the bearing assembly.

  2. Object Number: 245335 Size: SH

Important: Do not apply force to the sensor and the bearing in a sideways direction.

  3. Install the position sensor and bearing assembly into the steering column jacket.
  4. 2.1. Align the notches on the bearing and the column jacket.
2.2. Seat the bearing fulling into the jacket.

  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the bolt and the nut to the upper end of the shaft.
  8. Tighten
Tighten the nut to 62 N·m (46 lb ft).
