Removal Procedure

  1. Remove two-thirds of the brake fluid from the brake master cylinder.
  2. Raise the vehicle.
  3. Support the vehicle with safety stands.
  4. Remove the tire and the wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.

  5. Object Number: 156304 Size: SH
  6. Compress the front brake caliper piston using a C-clamp or pliers over the top of the front brake caliper housing and against the inboard front brake pad.
  7. Remove the front brake hose from the front brake caliper. Refer to Front Brake Hose Replacement in Hydraulic Brakes.
  8. Plug the front brake line and the front brake caliper housing to prevent contamination of the brake fluid.

  9. Object Number: 156325 Size: SH
  10. Remove the front brake caliper bolts.

  11. Object Number: 156326 Size: SH
  12. Remove the front brake caliper from the front brake rotor.
  13. Suspend the front brake caliper to the upper control arm with a wire hook.
  14. Inspect the front caliper bolts for corrosion.
  15. Replace any corroded parts.

Do not attempt to polish away any corrosion.

  16. Inspect the caliper bolt bushings for nicks, cuts, or corrosion. Replace any damaged parts.

Installation Procedure

  1. Connect the front brake caliper to the front brake rotor ensuring that the bushings are positioned correctly.

  2. Object Number: 156325 Size: SH
  3. Install the front brake caliper bolts and the sleeve.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    Object Number: 156329 Size: SH
  5. Lubricate the front caliper bolts and sleeves with silicone paste.
  6. Tighten
Tighten the front brake caliper bolt to 51 N·m (38 lb ft).

  7. Install the front brake hose to the front brake caliper. Refer to Front Brake Hose Replacement in Hydraulic Brakes.
  8. Measure the clearance between the front brake caliper and the bracket stops.

  9. Object Number: 137 Size: SH
  10. If necessary, remove the front brake caliper and file the ends of the bracket to obtain a 0.26 to 0.60 mm (0.010 to 0.024 in) total clearance. Measure the clearances individually and add them together.
  11. Bleed the brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding in Hydraulic Brakes.
  12. Important: Before moving the vehicle, pump the brake pedal until it is firm. Check the fluid level in the brake master cylinder after pumping the brakes.

  13. Install the tire and the wheel and check for firm pedal. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
