Removal Procedure

    Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

       • Air bag deployment
       • Personal injury
       • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
    In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
       • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
       • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Remove the steering column trim cover. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement - On Vehicle .

  3. Object Number: 688978  Size: SH
  4. Disconnect the steering column electrical connectors.

  5. Object Number: 306234  Size: SH
  6. Disconnect the multifunction switch connectors (2) from the steering column electrical connector (1).

  7. Object Number: 322946  Size: SH
  8. Remove the steering column wiring harness from the wiring harness strap.

  9. Object Number: 245826  Size: SH
  10. Remove the wire harness straps from the steering column wire harness.
  11. Remove the multifunction switch mounting screws.
  12. Remove the multifunction switch.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 245826  Size: SH

    Important: The multifunction switch electrical contact must rest on the cancelling cam assembly.

  1. Install the multifunction switch.
  2. 1.1. Use a small blade screwdriver in order to compress the electrical contact.
    1.2. Move the multifunction switch into position.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the multifunction switch mounting screws.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the multifunction switch mounting screws to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  5. Connect the multifunction switch electrical connectors (2) to the steering column electrical connector (1).

  6. Object Number: 688978  Size: SH
  7. Connect the steering column electrical connector to the instrument panel wire harness.

  8. Object Number: 322946  Size: SH
  9. Install the wire harness straps to the steering column wire harness.
  10. Install the steering column wire harness to wiring harness strap.
  11. Install the steering column trim cover. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement - On Vehicle .
  12. Enable the SIR System. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
