Removal Procedure

    Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

       • Air bag deployment
       • Personal injury
       • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
    In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
       • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
       • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Remove the steering column trim covers from the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement - On Vehicle .

  3. Object Number: 688978  Size: SH
  4. Disconnect the steering column electrical connectors.

  5. Object Number: 360577  Size: SH
  6. Remove the steering column wiring harness tie straps.

  7. Object Number: 322946  Size: SH
  8. Remove the steering column wire harness (1) from the wire harness strap (2).
  9. Remove and dispose of the small wire harness straps from the wire harness assembly (1).

  10. Object Number: 306234  Size: SH
  11. Disconnect the multifunction switch electrical connectors (2) from the bulkhead connector (1).

  12. Object Number: 306267  Size: SH
  13. Remove the key alarm connector (1) from the lock module (2).
  14. 8.1. Rotate the key alarm connector (1) 90 degrees.
    8.2. Pull the key alarm connector (1) out of the lock module (2).

  15. Remove the ignition switch mounting screws (2).
  16. Remove the ignition switch (1) from the lock module.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the ignition switch (1) to the lock module.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the ignition switch mounting screws (2).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the ignition switch mounting screws (2) to 1.5 N·m (13 lb in).

  5. Install the key alarm connector (1) to the lock module (2).
  6. 3.1. Push the key alarm connector (1) into the lock module (2).
    3.2. Rotate the key alarm connector (1) 90 degrees so that the key alarm connector (1) locks into place.

  7. Connect the multifunction switch electrical connectors to the bulkhead connector (1).

  9. Install the wire harness assembly (1) to the wire harness strap (2).

  10. Object Number: 360577  Size: SH
  11. Attach new wire harness straps to the wire harness assembly (1).

  12. Object Number: 688978  Size: SH
  13. Connect the steering column electrical connectors.
  14. Install the steering column trim covers to the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement - On Vehicle .
  15. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
