If possible, repair the damaged exhaust tubing. Otherwise, replace the exhaust tubing.

Inspect the muffler for restrictions.

Is the muffler restricted?

  1. If a restriction in the muffler is likely, remove the muffler and visually inspect it.
  2. If damaged, replace the muffler. Refer to Muffler Replacement .

Is the exhaust system restricted?

Inspect the end of the tail pipe.

Is the end of the tailpipe obstructed?

Remove the obstruction from the end of the tailpipe, or if the end is crimped, straighten it out.

Check for blockage in the three-way or close-couple catalytic converter, which may be a result of serious engine malfunction.

Is the three-way or close-couple catalytic converter blocked?
