Removal Procedure

J 39232 Wiper Transmission Separator

  1. Remove the wiper arms. Refer to Windshield Wiper Arm Replacement .
  2. Remove the air inlet grille panel. Refer to Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement .
  3. Disconnect the transmission drive link from the wiper motor crank arm with the J 39232 .

  5. Remove the transmission to cowl nuts.
  6. Remove the wiper transmission from the vehicle through the access openings in the top of the cowl.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the wiper transmission on the vehicle.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the transmission to cowl nuts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the transmission cowl nuts to 14 N·m (10 lb ft).

    Important: Assemble the wiper transmission to the crank arm past the second detent so that the seal is compressed to a maximum height of 25 mm (1.0 in).

    Lubricate the inside of the socket with GM PN 9985885 (or equivalent).

  5. Connect the transmission drive link to the wiper motor crank arm using the J 39529 .
  6. Install the air inlet grille panel. Refer to Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement .
  7. Install the wiper arms. Refer to Windshield Wiper Arm Replacement .
