Use a scan tool in order to read the vehicle control module (VCM) diagnostic trouble codes.

Are there any vehicle speed sensor related trouble codes?

Go to Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check in Engine Controls

  1. Disconnect the instrument cluster.
  2. Disconnect the VCM C4 connector.
  3. Disconnect the compass and temperature display module, if equipped.
  4. Connect a DMM J 39200 from the instrument cluster connector cavity B14 to ground.

Is there continuity?

Connect a DMM J 39200 between the instrument cluster connector cavity B14 and the VCM connector  C4 cavity 4.

Is there continuity?

--

Go to Step 6

Go to Step 7

Repair the short to ground in CKT 389 (DK GRN) between the following components:

    • The VCM
    • The instrument cluster
    • The compass and temperature display module, if equipped

Is the repair complete?

Replace the instrument cluster . Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .

Repair the open in CKT 389 (DK GRN) between the instrument cluster and the VCM.
