DEFINITION: The rear wiper motor is inoperative in one or more modes, the rear washer pump may or may not operate.

  1. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  2. Operate the rear wiper/washer system in all the switch positions.

Does the rear wiper/washer system operate normally?

--

Does the rear wiper motor operate when the rear washer switch is pressed?

--

Go to Step 6

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the harness connector of the rear wiper motor.
  3. Connect a test lamp from the battery voltage circuit of the rear wiper motor to a good ground.
  4. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Connect a test lamp from the battery voltage circuit to the ground circuit of the rear wiper motor.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the harness connector of the liftglass ajar jamb switch.
  3. Connect a test lamp from the signal circuit of the rear wiper switch to a good ground.
  4. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  5. Place the rear wiper/washer switch to the HI position.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Connect a 15-ampere fused jumper wire from the signal circuit of the rear wiper switch supplied to the liftglass ajar jamb switch to the signal circuit of the rear wiper switch for the rear wiper motor.

Does the rear wiper motor operate?

  1. Disconnect the rear wiper/washer switch connector.
  2. Connect a test lamp from the accessory voltage circuit of the rear wiper switch to a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Measure the resistance of the rear wiper/washer switch from the accessory voltage circuit to the signal circuit of the rear wiper switch.
  2. Place the rear wiper switch in the LO position.

Is the resistance at or near the specified value?

1000 ohms

  1. Measure the resistance of the rear wiper/washer switch from the accessory voltage circuit to the signal circuit of the rear wiper switch.
  2. Place the rear wiper switch in the HI position.

Is the resistance at or near the specified value?

5 ohms

Test the signal circuit of the rear wiper switch from the liftglass ajar jamb switch to the rear wiper motor for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the accessory voltage circuit of the rear wiper/washer switch for an open or short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
