Did you review the Outside Mirror Description and Operation?

Go to Step 2

  1. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  2. Place the outside rearview folding mirror switch in both the extend and retract positions.

Do both folding mirrors operate properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

Are both the left and right folding mirrors completely inoperative?

Go to Step 4

  1. Disconnect the outside rearview folding mirror switch.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the RAP fuse voltage supply circuit at the outside rearview folding mirror switch harness connector and a good ground.
  3. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 5

Connect a test lamp between the RAP fuse voltage supply circuit and the ground circuit at the outside rearview folding mirror switch harness connector.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 6

  1. Connect the outside rearview folding mirror switch.
  2. Connect a test lamp to a good ground.
  3. Probe the folding mirror motor extend circuit at the outside rearview folding mirror switch harness connector.
  4. Place the outside rearview folding mirror switch in the extend position and note the test lamp.
  5. Probe the folding mirror motor retract circuit at the outside rearview folding mirror switch harness connector.
  6. Place the outside rearview folding mirror switch in the retract position and note the test lamp.

Does the test lamp illuminate in both positions?

Go to Step 10

  1. Disconnect the appropriate folding mirror.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the folding mirror motor extend and retract circuits.
  3. Operate the outside rearview folding mirror switch in both the extend and retract directions.

Does the test lamp illuminate in both directions?

Go to Step 9

Inspect for poor connections at the outside rearview folding mirror switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 15

Inspect for poor connections at the power mirror. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the open in the mirror motor extend and/or retract circuit(s). Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the open in the mirror switch ground circuit. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 15

Repair the open or short to ground in the RAP fuse voltage supply circuit. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the outside rearview folding mirror switch.

Replace the power mirror. Refer to Outside Rearview Mirror Replacement .
