Evaporative Emission Canister Replacement 2-Door Utility

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 617029  Size: SH
  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the left rear shield.
  3. Remove the canister retainer (1).

  4. Object Number: 617023  Size: SH
  5. Disconnect the vent hose (2) from the canister (1).
  6. Disconnect the fuel tank pipe and the purge pipe from the canister.
  7. Remove the EVAP canister.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 617023  Size: SH
  1. Install the EVAP canister.
  2. Connect the fuel tank pipe and the purge pipe to the canister.
  3. Connect the vent hose (2) to the canister (1).

  4. Object Number: 617029  Size: SH
  5. Install the canister retainer (1).
  6. Install the left rear shield.
  7. Lower the vehicle.

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  2. Object Number: 747562  Size: SH
  3. Disconnect the fuel tank vapor pipe (3), EVAP vent hose (1) and the EVAP purge pipe (2) from the EVAP canister (4).
  4. Remove the EVAP canister bracket assembly (4).

  5. Object Number: 747561  Size: SH
  6. Move the retaining tab (1) away from the EVAP canister (3).
  7. Remove the EVAP canister (3) from the EVAP canister bracket (2).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 747561  Size: SH
  1. Install the EVAP canister (3) to the EVAP canister bracket (2).
  2. Secure the retaining tab (1) to the EVAP canister (3).
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the EVAP canister bracket assembly (4).
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the EVAP canister bracket retaining bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  6. Connect the fuel tank vapor pipe (3), EVAP vent hose (1) and the EVAP purge pipe (2) to the EVAP canister (4).
  7. Lower the vehicle.
