FRONT AXLE OFFSET DESCRIPTION AND SPECIFICATIONS

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1987, 88 AND 89 VI, V2, V3 LIGHT DUTY TRUCK MODELS

The front axles in the 1987, 88 and 89 Vl, V2, V3 truck models are wider than the rear axles.

Due to a stack up of tolerances, the rear axle may also be offset to one side or the other when compared to the front axle. This can be as much as 44mm (1-3/4") on the Vl and V2 models, and as much as 57mm (2-1/4") on the V3 models.

Because the front and rear axles are parallel to each other, this condition will not affect tire wear or vehicle handling.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
