POOR CLUTCH DISENGAGEMENT NOISE OR PEDAL BINDS

SOME OF THE ABOVE SUBJECT VEHICLES MAY EXPERIENCE THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS:

. MARGINAL CLUTCH DISENGAGEMENT - RESULTING IN GEAR CLASH WHEN SHIFTING INTO FIRST OR REVERSE AND HARD SHIFTING BETWEEN ALL GEARS.

. CLUTCH RELEASE BEARING RETAINER TO YOKE BINDING - CAUSING HIGH CLUTCH PEDAL EFFORT AND A "CREAKING" NOISE BEING EMITTED FROM THE CLUTCH BELLHOUSING WHEN A CLUTCH APPLICATION IS MADE.

IF THESE CONDITIONS OCCUR AFTER A CLUTCH ADJUSTMENT HAS BEEN MADE, IT MAY BE THE RESULT OF A PARTS TOLERANCE STACK UP. WHEN THIS OCCURS, THE CLUTCH YOKE PIVOTS OVER THE DESIGN LIMIT CAUSING THE TIP OF THE YOKE TO BIND ON THE CLUTCH RELEASE BEARING CARRIER WEAR PADS.

TO ELIMINATE THESE CONDITIONS, EFFECTIVE NOVEMBER 9, 1987, ALL SUBJECT VEHICLES ARE MANUFACTURED WITH A NEW RELEASE BEARING CARRIER ASSEMBLY WHICH IS OVERALL 0.37" LONGER AND REPOSITIONS THE WEAR PADS 0.42" REARWARD, IMPROVING CLUTCH PERFORMANCE.

THE NEW RELEASE BEARING AND CARRIER IS AVAILABLE THROUGH GMSPO BY ORDERING THE PART LISTED BELOW:

QUANTITY PART NUMBER DESCRIPTION -------- ----------- ----------- 1 2071736 RELEASE BEARING AND CARRIER ASSEMBLY.

PART NUMBER 2071736 DIMENSIONS: OVERALL LENGTH (FACE OF RELEASE BEARING TO REAR OF CARRIER) - 4.00" WEAR PAD LOCATION (FACE OF RELEASE BEARING TO FACE OF WEAR PAD) - 3.50"

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
