WRINKLED FRONT FLOOR MAT IMPROVE APPEARANCE PROCEDURE

SUBJECT: WRINKLED FRONT RUBBER FLOOR MAT MODELS: 1981 C-K TRUCKS A FEW 1981 C-K TRUCKS MAY EXHIBIT A WRINKLED FRONT FLOOR MAT. THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION CAN BE USED TO IMPROVE FLOOR MAT APPEARANCE. 1.REMOVE FRONT SILL PLATES AND FRONT - FRONT SEAT TO FLOOR BOLTS. LOOSEN REAR - FRONT SEAT TO FLOOR BOLTS. 2.DETERMINE WHETHER THE EXISTING MAT CAN BE "IRONED OUT", BY HAND, TO AN ACCEPTABLE FIT. REPLACE MAT IF NECESSARY. 3.REMOVE FRONT MAT RETAINERS (FIGURE NO. 2). LAY MAT AND INSULATOR BACK TO EXPOSE ONE SIDE OF TRUCK FLOOR FROM TUNNEL TO DOOR. ON LEFT (DRIVER) SIDE ONLY - CUT INSULATOR AS SHOWN IN FIGURE NO. 1. THIS WILL IMPROVE FIT OF MAT AND INSULATOR ADJACENT TO ACCELERATOR. 4.COAT FLOOR WHERE INSULATOR CONTACTS WITH 3M GENERAL TRIM ADHESIVE (3M P/N 08080) OR EQUIVALENT. DO NOT SPRAY DIMMER SWITCH, ACCELERATOR LINKAGE, OR OTHER MECHANISMS. 5.GRADUALLY SPRAY UNDERSIDE OF INSULATOR WHILE WORKING IT INTO POSITION FROM TUNNEL OUTBOARD. TAKE PARTICULAR CARE TO OBTAIN GOOD FIT ON TUNNEL SIDES AND ACCELERATOR AREA. THE ADHESIVE IS QUICK SETTING, SO WRINKLES MUST BE WORKED OUT AS CONTACT IS MADE. 6.SPRAY TOP OF INSULATOR AND FLOOR WHERE MAT OVEREXTENDS INSULATOR UNDER SILL PLATES AND SEAT. 7.SPRAY UNDERSIDE OF MAT WHILE WORKING INTO POSITION AS WAS DONE WITH INSULATOR IN STEP 5. 8.REPEAT STEPS 4-7 FOR OPPOSITE SIDE. 9.REINSTALL FRONT MAT RETAINERS. 10.REINSTALL SILL PLATES. BEND SLIGHTLY AS REQUIRED TO ASSURE CLAMPING OF MAT TO FLOOR. 11.REINSTALL AND TIGHTEN SEAT BOLTS. 12.ALLOW ONE HOUR WITH WINDOWS OPEN FOR FUMES TO DISSIPATE. ILLUSTRATION

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
