J 42371 Hydraulic Clutch Line Separator

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 102888  Size: SH
  1. Shift the transmission into 3rd or 4th gear.
  2. Remove the shift lever assembly. Refer to Shift Lever Assembly Replacement .
  3. If vehicle is a 2-wheel drive (2WD), remove the propeller shaft. Refer to One-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement or Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement .
  4. If vehicle is a 4-wheel drive (4WD), remove the transfer case. Refer to Transfer Case Assembly Replacement for the NVG 261-NP2 transfer case (Two Speed Manual) or Transfer Case Assembly Replacement for the NVG 261-NP1 transfer case (Selectable).

  5. Object Number: 776999  Size: SH
  6. Using J 42371 push back on the white plastic sleeve on the quick connect in order to disconnect the clutch actuator cylinder to clutch master cylinder quick connect fitting.

  7. Object Number: 775031  Size: SH
  8. Disconnect the following engine wiring harness electrical connectors:
  9. • Backup lamp switch (1)
    • Vehicle speed sensor (VSS) (3)
    • Oxygen sensor (4)
  10. Remove the oxygen sensor (2) from the transmission bracket.
  11. Remove the engine harness clips from the fuel feed/return line clip/bracket.

  13. If equipped with 4WD, remove the vent hose clip from the bracket.

  14. Object Number: 775339  Size: SH
  15. If equipped with 4WD, remove the vent hose clip (1) from the fuel feed/return hose bracket.

  16. Object Number: 775356  Size: SH
  17. If equipped with 4WD, remove the fuel feed/return hose clip from the bracket.
  18. Remove the starter. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement .
  19. Support the transmission using a suitable transmission jack.
  20. Remove the transmission support. Refer to Transmission Support Replacement .

  22. Disconnect the vent hose from the transmission.
  23. Remove the vent hose clip from the clutch housing.

  24. Object Number: 775391  Size: SH
  25. Remove the transmission to clutch housing bolts.
  26. Remove the transmission from the clutch housing.

  27. Object Number: 775394  Size: SH
  28. If required, remove the clutch housing bolts/studs.
  29. If required, remove the clutch housing.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 775394  Size: SH
  1. If removed, position the clutch housing.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. If removed, install the clutch housing bolts/studs.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts/studs to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  5. Position the transmission to the clutch housing.
  6. Install the transmission to clutch housing bolts.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 100 N·m (74 lb ft).

  8. Install the vent hose clip to the clutch housing.
  9. Connect the vent hose from the transmission.
  10. Install the transmission support. Refer to Transmission Support Replacement .
  11. Remove the transmission jack.
  12. Install the starter. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement .

  14. If equipped with 4WD, install the fuel feed/return hose clip to the bracket.

  15. Object Number: 775339  Size: SH
  16. If equipped with 4WD, install the vent hose clip (1) to the fuel feed/return hose bracket.

  17. Object Number: 775346  Size: SH
  18. If equipped with 4WD, install the vent hose clip to the bracket.

  19. Object Number: 775031  Size: SH
  20. Install the engine harness clips to the fuel feed/return line clip/bracket.
  21. Install the oxygen sensor (2) to the transmission bracket.
  22. Connect the following engine wiring harness electrical connectors:
  23. • Backup lamp switch (1)
    • VSS (3)
    • Oxygen sensor (4)

    Important: DO NOT rely on an audible click or a visual verification on the clutch hydraulic hose quick connect fitting connection.

  24. Connect the clutch actuator cylinder hose to the clutch master cylinder hose.
  25. Push together the clutch hydraulic hose quick connect fittings, then pull back on the fittings to verify engagement.
  26. Check the clutch hydraulic hose for kinks or twists.
  27. If vehicle is a 4WD, install the transfer case. Refer to Transfer Case Assembly Replacement for the NVG 261-NP2 transfer case (Two Speed Manual) or Transfer Case Assembly Replacement for the NVG 261-NP1 transfer case (Selectable).
  28. If vehicle is a 2WD, install the propeller shaft. Refer to One-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement or Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement .
  29. Fill the transmission fluid.
  30. Install the shift lever assembly. Refer to Shift Lever Assembly Replacement .
  31. Bleed the clutch hydraulic system. Refer to Hydraulic Clutch Bleeding .
