- Clean the camshaft timing components in solvent.
Caution: Refer to Safety Glasses Caution in the Preface section.
- Dry the components with compressed air.
- Inspect the camshaft timing chain for binding or wear.
Important: If the sprocket or sprockets must be replaced, replace both sprockets to ensure timing chain centerline alignment is maintained.
- Inspect the camshaft and crankshaft sprockets for the following conditions:
| • | Uneven wear on one edge of the teeth |
| • | Worn valleys between the sprocket teeth |
| • | Crankshaft sprocket keyway for wear |
