Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 470998  Size: SH
  1. Remove the grille. Refer to Grille Replacement .
  2. Remove the air conditioning (A/C) condenser. Refer to Condenser Replacement .
  3. Remove the valve lifters. Refer to Valve Lifter Replacement .
  4. Remove the timing chain and sprocket. Refer to Timing Chain and Sprocket Replacement .
  5. Remove the camshaft retainer bolts.
  6. Remove the camshaft retainer.

  8. Install three 8 - 1.25 x 100 mm bolts into the camshaft front bolt holes.
  9. Using the bolts as a handle, carefully rotate and pull the camshaft out of the engine block.
  10. Remove the bolts from the front of the camshaft.
  11. Clean and inspect the camshaft. Refer to Camshaft and Bearings Cleaning and Inspection .

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 471002  Size: SH

    Notice: All camshaft journals are the same diameter, so care must be used in removing or installing the camshaft to avoid damage to the camshaft bearings.

  1. Apply lubricant to the following components:
  2. • The camshaft lobes
    • The camshaft bearing journals
    • The camshaft bearings
    • Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers for the correct part number.
  3. Install three 8 - 1.25 x 100 mm bolts into the camshaft threaded bolt holes.
  4. Using the bolts as a handle, carefully install the camshaft.
  5. Remove the bolts from the front of the camshaft.
  6. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  7. Install the camshaft retainer and bolts.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  9. Install the timing chain and sprocket. Refer to Timing Chain and Sprocket Replacement .
  10. Install the valve lifters. Refer to Valve Lifter Replacement .
  11. Install the A/C condenser. Refer to Condenser Replacement .
  12. Install the grille. Refer to Grille Replacement .
