Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 360851  Size: SH
  1. Loosen the air cleaner outlet duct clamp at the mass airflow (MAF)/intake air temperature (IAT) sensor.

  2. Object Number: 701705  Size: SH
  3. Remove the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose.

  4. Object Number: 489179  Size: SH
  5. Remove the air cleaner adapter nut.

  6. Object Number: 489176  Size: SH
  7. In order to remove the air cleaner outlet duct, pivot the duct upward until the hinge clip releases from the lip on the throttle body.

  8. Object Number: 869719  Size: SH
  9. Remove the heater outlet hose from the clip.
  10. Move and secure the heater hoses out of the way.

  11. Object Number: 782177  Size: SH
  12. Disconnect the following electrical connectors:
  13. • The ignition coil (1)
    • The ignition coil drive (2)
    • The generator (3)
  14. Disconnect the engine wiring harness clips.
  15. Reposition the engine wiring harness.

  17. Remove the rocker arm cover bolts.
  18. Remove and discard the rocker arm cover bolt grommets, if necessary.
  19. Remove the rocker arm cover.

  20. Object Number: 328573  Size: SH
  21. Remove and discard the rocker arm cover gasket.
  22. Clean and inspect the rocker arm cover, if necessary. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Cleaning and Inspection .

Installation Procedure

Important: Do not reuse the cover gasket or the valve rocker arm cover bolt grommets.

  1. Install a NEW rocker arm cover gasket.
  2. Install NEW rocker arm cover bolt grommets, if necessary.

  3. Object Number: 869731  Size: SH
  4. Install the rocker arm cover.
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the rocker arm cover bolts.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  8. Position the engine wiring harness.
  9. Connect the engine wiring harness clips.
  10. Connect the following electrical connectors:
  11. • The ignition coil (1)
    • The ignition coil drive (2)
    • The generator (3)

  12. Position the heater hoses.
  13. Install the heater outlet to the hose clip.

  14. Object Number: 489176  Size: SH
  15. Align the hinge clip with the lip on the throttle body.
  16. In order to install the air cleaner outlet duct, pivot the air cleaner outlet duct downward until the mounting stud is through the hole.

  17. Install the air cleaner adapter nut.

  18. Object Number: 701705  Size: SH
  19. Install the PCV hose.

  20. Object Number: 360851  Size: SH
  21. Tighten the air cleaner outlet duct clamp at the MAF/IAT sensor.
  22. Tighten
    Tighten the clamp to 4 N·m (35 lb in).
