- Test the scan tool operation on a known good vehicle in order to ensure proper operation of the scan tool.
- Inspect for proper connection of the scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC).
- Inspect for proper installation of the aftermarket electronic equipment. Improper installation of aftermarket electronic equipment may affect the integrity of other systems.
- Verify power and ground at the data link connector (DLC).
- Verify the integrity of the serial data wires.
