This bulletin is being issued to inform technicians that when replacing the electronic brake control module (EBCM) on the above listed vehicles with the new EBCM P/N 12477736, the red (primary) brake light may illuminate.

In order to avoid a misdiagnosis of the service EBCM and to address the false illumination of the brake light, please perform the following steps:

  1. On the EBCM connector C1 (24 cavities), remove the plastic wire protector.
  2. Expose approximately 127 mm (5 in) of wire by removing the tape and wires from the plastic conduit.
  3. Cut the purple wire (conventional, school bus) or tan/white wire (tilt cab) in cavity 7 as close to the connector as possible.
  4. Apply a small amount of silicone on the end of the cut wire within the connector in order to seal out possible moisture intrusion.
  5. Cut the remaining wire several inches into the harness and tape.
  6. Install the wires back into the conduit and tape.
  7. Install the plastic wire protector.
