New rear brake caliper shields have been released and are available for service on the above listed vehicles. These new shields will aid in deflecting any airborne road debris that may be kicked up from the front tires. This mainly pertains to vehicles that run primarily rural routes on gravel roads at higher speeds.
These shields are designed to slide under the existing rear brake jounce hose bracket (against the caliper) without breaking the hydraulic fluid seal. The shields fit both ABS and non-ABS vehicles and will protect the brake tubes at the caliper ends. Installation of the shields will require longer bolts.
Inspect the rear brake hoses. Replace the lines as necessary and install the shields using the following procedure and the part numbers listed below.
- Remove the two fasteners (1) that attach the rear brake jounce hose to the caliper.
- Slide the shield (2) between the rear brake jounce hose bracket and the caliper.
- Secure the rear brake jounce hose bracket and shield to the caliper using the new longer bolts.
- Install plastic conduit to completely cover the remaining rear brake tubes and flex hoses on the front side of the axle.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 33 N·m (24 lb ft).
