When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.

Condition/Concern:

Repeat rear axle hub seal leak.

Recommendation/Instructions:

  1. For proper seal installation, use seal installer J-44420 and universal driver handle J-8092.
  2. Prior to installing the hub, verify all parts of the old seal are removed from the backing plate and / or spindle. Pay careful attention to the spindle as the inner ring can be overlooked causing failure of the new seal.
  3. Carefully install the hub squared on the axle spindle just far enough to start the hub nut.
  4. IMPORTANT: For step #3 once the hub is installed on the spindle do not remove or back the hub off the spindle or damage will occur to the seal.

  5. Gradually draw the hub on the spindle using the hub nut.
  6. IMPORTANT: Step #4 ensures that the hub being installed on the spindle does not damage the seal.

  7. Continue to follow published service procedures.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not be automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.
