J 44643 Flywheel Holding Tool

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 660305  Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  2. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. Remove the right fender wheelhouse panel. Refer to Wheelhouse Panel Replacement In Body Front End.
  4. Remove the starter motor bolts and set aside. The wiring to the starter does not require removal.

  6. Install J 44643 in order to lock the flywheel.
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8. Remove the upper and lower fan shroud. Refer to Engine Coolant Fan Upper Shroud Replacement and Engine Coolant Fan Lower Shroud Replacement in Engine Cooling.

  9. Object Number: 660310  Size: SH
  10. Remove the crankshaft balancer bolt.
  11. Remove the crankshaft balancer. The balancer is a slip fit design and should slide off. If the balancer can be turned side to side the pin in the crankshaft is worn and the pin should be replaced.
  12. If required, clean and inspect the balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Cleaning and Inspection .

Installation Procedure

  1. Lightly lubricate the crankshaft balancer internal hub with clean engine oil.
  2. Install the crankshaft balancer on the crankshaft.
  3. Lightly lubricate the crankshaft balancer bolt with clean engine oil.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the crankshaft balancer bolt.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 353 N·m (260 lb ft).

  7. Raise the vehicle.
  8. Remove J 44643 .

  9. Object Number: 660305  Size: SH
  10. Position the starter motor.
  11. Install the starter motor bolts.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 78 N·m (58 lb ft).

  13. Install the right fender wheelhouse panel. Refer to Wheelhouse Panel Replacement in Body Front End.
  14. Lower the vehicle.
  15. Install the upper and lower fan shroud. Refer to Engine Coolant Fan Upper Shroud Replacement and Engine Coolant Fan Lower Shroud Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  16. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
