Removal Procedure
- Disconnect the spark plug wire from the spark plug.
| 1.1. | Twist the boot 1/2 turn before removing the boot. |
| 1.2. | Pull only on the boot or use a tool designed for this purpose in order to remove the wire from the spark plug. |
- Loosen the spark plug 1 or 2 turns.
- Brush or air blast away any dirt from around the spark plug.
- Remove the spark plug. If removing more than 1 plug, place each plug in a tray marked with the corresponding cylinder number.
Installation Procedure
- Ensure that the spark plug washer is positioned correctly.
- Inspect the spark plug gap. Adjust the gap as needed.
Specification
Spark plug gap: 1.524 mm (0.060 in)
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Hand start the spark plug into the corresponding cylinder.
- Tighten the spark plug.
Tighten
| • | For used heads, tighten the plug to 15 N·m (11 lb ft). |
| • | For new aluminum heads, tighten the plug to 20 N·m (15 lb ft). |
| • | For new iron heads, tighten the plug to 30 N·m (22 lb ft). |
