The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in the PI.
Condition/Concern:
Malfunction indicator light is on and the vehicle has a code P0706. There may or may not be any other codes stored. Checking eSI will reveal that there is not a flow chart for a P0706 listed under the M74 LCT1000 transmission diagnostics.
Recommendation/Instructions:
This is not an error. 2001-2005 LCT1000 equipped trucks are not able to set a code P0706 in the transmission control module (TCM). However, a code may set in the engine control module (ECM) on vehicles equipped with an 8.1 engine if there is a concern with the NSBU switch or wiring. When selecting engine size on the TECH II, be sure to select 8.1 engine and 5-speed automatic transmission so you will be able to view TCM data and codes.
Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
