Removal Procedure
- Drain the fuel from the fuel filter. Refer to Water-in-Fuel Draining .
- Disconnect the water-in-fuel sensor harness connector.
- Remove the fuel filter (2) from the fuel filter/heater element housing (1).
- Remove the water-in-fuel sensor (3) from the fuel filter (2). Refer to Water in Fuel Indicator Sensor Replacement .
Installation Procedure
- Install the water-in-fuel sensor (3) to the NEW fuel filter (2) and tighten 1/2 turn after the seal contacts the filter.
- Install the NEW fuel filter to the fuel filter adapter and tighten 1/4 turn after the seal contacts the filter adapter.
- Install the fuel filter (2) on the fuel filter/heater element housing (1).
- Connect the water-in-fuel harness connector.
- Prime the fuel system. Refer to Fuel Feed Pipe and Return Pipe Purging .
- Connect the negative battery cables. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
- Start the engine and inspect for fuel leaks.
Important: Inspect the fuel filter/heater element housing and the fuel filter for a dislocated filter seal or contamination. Contamination on the fuel filter/heater element housing may cause leakage at the fuel filter. Coat the seal with clean engine oil.
