HOOD PAINT FLAKING (REPLACE HOOD)

MODELS: 1989 C/K 1,2,3

Hood paint flaking or adhesion may be experienced on some 1989 C/K trucks within the breakpoints listed. This condition was caused by an improper galvanizing process. The flaking condition to bare metal will be most noticeable on the edges of the hood. Hoods that were built within the suspect time period may be identified by the number 39 stamped in the right edge approximately 16 inches from the front of the hood. If paint flaking occurs on a hood with a number 39 stamped in the right edge and the VIN is within the breakpoints instead, the hood must be replaced and refinished. Do not attempt to refinish the original hood. Order Hood P/N 15611248. Parts are currently available from GMSPO.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
