ERRATIC IDLE & ENGINE MISFIRE UNDER LOAD

SOME 1983 AND 1984 "G" MODELS WITH V6 AND V8 ENGINES MAY EXPERIENCE AN ERRATIC ENGINE IDLE AND MISFIRE UNDER LOAD. IN ADDITION TO THESE CONDITIONS, A RADIO STATIC IGNITION NOISE ON V8 EQUIPPED MODELS MAY BE PRESENT. THESE CONDITIONS MAY BE DUE TO DISTRIBUTOR CAP CARBON TRACKING. SILICONE GREASE DEPOSITS ON THE DISTRIBUTOR TERMINALS MAY BREAK DOWN AND CAUSE DEPOSITS OF CARBON TO ACCUMULATE INSIDE THE CAP. REPAIRS CAN BE PERFORMED BY CLEANING THE ROTOR CONTACTS INSIDE THE DISTRIBUTOR CAP AND REMOVING ANY SILICONE GREASE AND CARBON DEPOSITS. ON SEVERLY PITTED DISTRIBUTOR CAP CONTACTS, REPLACEMENT OF THE CAP IS RECOMMENDED.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
