SERVICE VME

Some customers may comment that their compass ( in the inside rearview mirror ) is not working properly or is inoperative. All inside rearview mirrors with the compass feature are set to Zone 8 from the factory. If vehicle is sold outside Zone 8 ( refer to Owners Manual Section 2 for Zone map), it is necessary to adjust the compass to compensate for compass variation (difference between magnetic north and true north). To adjust for compass variation:

  1. Find current location and correct zone number from the map on Section 2 of Owners Manual;
  2. Press and hold the COMP button for five seconds until a zone number appears in the display and
  3. Press and hold the Comp button until the appropriate Zone number appears in the display, release the button.

.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not be automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.
