Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the transfer case shield, if equipped. Refer to Transfer Case Shield Replacement .
  2. Remove the rear propeller shaft. Refer to One-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement or Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement .
  3. Remove the rear output shaft seal.

  4. Object Number: 801274  Size: SH
  5. Inspect the rear output shaft bushing for scoring or wear.
  6. Important: Use the appropriate bushing tool depending on application. If the vehicle is equipped with a light duty transfer case use J 45380 If the vehicle is equipped with a heavy duty transfer case use DT-48734 .

  7. Install the finger section of the J 45380 (Light Duty) or DT-48734 (Heavy Duty) in front of the bushing.

  8. Install the tube and forcing screw to the finger section. Ensure the forcing screw is backed out.
  9. Using a wrench on the forcing screw, remove the rear output shaft bushing.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install a NEW rear output shaft bushing using the J 45380 (Light Duty) or DT-48734 (Heavy Duty).
  2. 1.1. Install the bushing or the finger section of the J 45380 (Light Duty) or DT-48734 (Heavy Duty) .
    1.2. Install the finger section to the main body of the J 45380 (Light Duty) or DT-48734 (Heavy Duty) .
    1.3. Position the bushing and tool to the case.
    1.4. Using a hammer and the J 45380 (Light Duty) or DT-48734 (Heavy Duty), install the bushing.

    Important: Ensure the drain hole on the boot of the rear output shaft seal is facing down toward the ground

  3. Install the rear output shaft seal.
  4. For the light duty transfer case use J 37668-A , for the heavy duty transfer case use DT-48021 .

  5. Install the rear propeller shaft. Refer to One-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement or Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement .
  6. Check the fluid level, add fluid if necessary.
  7. Install the transfer case shield, if necessary. Refer to Transfer Case Fluid Replacement .
