Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 324906  Size: SH

    Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

       • Air bag deployment
       • Personal injury
       • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
    In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
       • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
       • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Remove the steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement - On Vehicle .
  3. Remove the automatic transmission shift lock actuator. Refer to Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Actuator Replacement .

  5. Disconnect the park lock cable assembly (1).
  6. The steering column lock cylinder set should be in the OFF-LOCK position.
  7. Insert a small screwdriver into the slot on the lock module assembly and push against the locking tab to remove.

  9. Remove 3 flat head 6 lobed socket tap screws from the linear shift assembly.
  10. Remove the linear shift assembly from the steering column.
  11. To disassemble the linear shift assembly as an assembly from the column, proceed to the next step.

  13. Remove the hexagon flange head bolt from the gear shift lever assembly.
  14. Remove the ball and actuator assembly (2) from the gear shift lever assembly.
  15. Remove the shift lever clevis (1) from the support bracket for the gear shift lever assembly.

  17. Remove the 3 TORX® screws from the shift gate.
  18. Remove the park lock cable assembly from the support bracket for the gear shift lever assembly.

  20. Remove the hexagon flange head bolt from the cable shift cam assembly (1).
  21. Remove the cable shift cam assembly (1) from the support bracket for the gear shift lever assembly.
  22. Remove the cam bushing (2) from the cable shift cam assembly (1).

  24. Remove the 3 TORX® screws from the support bracket for the gear shift lever assembly.
  25. Remove the gear shift lever assembly support bracket from the steering column support assembly.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 324916  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install the linear shift assembly and secure using 3 TORX® screws.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the 3 TORX® screws to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

    Important: Lubricate all of the moving parts of the linear shift assembly with synthetic grease.

  3. Install the gear shift lever assembly support bracket onto the steering column support assembly.
  4. Screw the 3 TORX® screws into the gear shift lever assembly.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the 3 TORX® screws to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  6. Insert the cam bushing (2) into the cable shift cam assembly (1).
  7. Install the cable shift cam assembly (1) into the support bracket for the gear shift lever assembly.
  8. Screw the hexagon flange head bolt into the cable shift cam assembly (1).
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the hexagon flange head bolt to 18 N·m (14 lb ft).

  10. Install the park lock cable assembly onto the support bracket for the gear shift lever assembly.
  11. Screw the 3 TORX® screws into the shift gate and park lock cable assembly.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the 3 TORX® screws to 6.5 N·m (58 lb in).

  13. Install the shift lever clevis (1) into the support bracket for the gear shift lever assembly.
  14. Install the ball actuator assembly (2) onto the gear shift lever assembly.
  15. Install the hexagon flange head bolt into the gear shift lever assembly.
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the hexagon flange head bolt to 18 N·m (14 lb ft).

  17. Connect the park lock cable assembly (1) to the lock module assembly in the following way:
  18. 12.1. Place the steering column lock cylinder set into the off position.
    12.2. Place the shift lever clevis into the park position.
    12.3. Press the locking tab on the end of the park lock cable assembly (1) into the slot in the lock module assembly.
  19. Inspect the park lock cable assembly.
  20. 13.1. Put the lock cylinder in the OFF-LOCK position. The shift lever clevis should not be able to shift out of the park position.
    13.2. Turn the key to the run position and put the shift lever clevis in the neutral position.
    13.3. With the shift lever clevis in the neutral position the lock cylinder should not be able to go into the OFF-LOCK position.
    13.4. Put the shift lever clevis into the park position.
    13.5. Put the lock cylinder in the OFF-LOCK position and then remove the key.
  21. Install the automatic transmission shift lock actuator. Refer to Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Actuator Replacement .
  22. Install the steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement - On Vehicle .
  23. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
