Heater Inlet Hose Replacement L18

Tools Required

J 43181 Quick Connect Connector Removal Tool

Removal Procedure

  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  2. Remove the air intake tube.
  3. Remove the heater and surge tank hoses from the mounting clip.
  4. Disconnect the heater hose quick connect fittings.
  5. 4.1. Using the J 43181 for pickup trucks.
    4.2. Sport utility vehicles do not require a special tool.
    4.3. Release the retainer tabs.
    4.4. Pull the connection apart.

  6. Remove the inlet heater hose (1) from the coolant outlet fitting.
  7. Remove the Inlet heater hose.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the Inlet heater hose.

  2. Object Number: 651354  Size: SH
  3. Install the Inlet heater hose (1) to the coolant outlet fitting

  4. Object Number: 362171  Size: SH
  5. Connect the heater and surge tank hoses to the heater core.
  6. Firmly push the quick connect onto the heater core pipe until you hear an audible click.

  7. Install the heater and surge tank hoses to the mounting clip.
  8. Install the air intake tube.
  9. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  10. Inspect the cooling system for leaks. Refer to Loss of Coolant in Engine Cooling.

Tools Required

J 43181 Quick Connect Connector Removal Tool

Removal Procedure

  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  2. Remove the air intake tube.
  3. Remove the heater and surge tank hoses from the mounting clip.
  4. Disconnect the heater hose quick connect fittings.
  5. 4.1. Using the J 43181 for pickup trucks.
    4.2. Sport utility vehicles do not require a special tool.
    4.3. Release the retainer tabs.
    4.4. Pull the connection apart.

  6. Remove the inlet heater hose (1) from the coolant outlet.
  7. Disconnect the auxiliary inlet heater hose if equipped.
  8. Remove the inlet heater hose.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the heater hose.
  2. Connect the auxiliary inlet heater hose if equipped.

  4. Install the inlet heater hose (1) to the coolant outlet.

  5. Object Number: 362171  Size: SH
  6. Connect the heater and surge tank hoses to the heater core.
  7. Firmly push the quick connect onto the heater core pipe until you hear an audible click.

  8. Install the heater and surge tank hoses to the mounting clip.
  9. Install the air intake tube.
  10. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  11. Inspect the cooling system for leaks. Refer to Loss of Coolant in Engine Cooling.

Tools Required

J 43181 Quick Connect Connector Removal Tool

Removal Procedure

  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  2. Remove the air intake tube.

  4. Using the J 43181 disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core inlet and outlet.
  5. 3.1. Install the J 43181 to the heater core pipes.
    3.2. Close the tool around the heater core pipes.
    3.3. Firmly pull the tool into the quick connect end of the heater hose.
    3.4. Firmly grasp the heater hose. Pull the heater hose forward in order to disengage the hose from the heater core.
  6. Disconnect the heater hose quick connect fittings.
  7. 4.1. Using the J 43181 for pickup trucks.
    4.2. Sport utility vehicles do not require a special tool.
    4.3. Release the retainer tabs.
    4.4. Pull the connection apart.

  8. Remove the outlet heater hose mounting bolt.
  9. Remove the outlet heater hose from the water pump.
  10. Remove the heater hoses.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the heater hoses.

  2. Object Number: 363243  Size: SH
  3. Install the outlet heater hose to the engine water pump.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the heater hose mounting bolt.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the mounting bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  7. Install the inlet heater hose to the engine.
  8. Connect the heater hoses to the heater core.
  9. Firmly push the quick connect onto the heater core pipe until you hear an audible click.

  10. Install the air intake tube.
  11. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  12. Inspect the cooling system for leaks. Refer to Loss of Coolant in Engine Cooling.

  3. Remove the heater and surge tank hoses from the mounting clip.
  4. Disconnect the heater hose quick connect fittings.

    4.3. Release the retainer tabs.
    4.4. Pull the connection apart.

  3. Install the heater hose to the water pump.
  4. Connect the heater and surge tank hoses to the heater core.
  5. Firmly push the quick connect onto the heater core pipe until you hear an audible click.

  6. Install the heater and surge tank hoses to the mounting clip.
  7. Install the air intake tube.
  8. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  9. Inspect the cooling system for leaks. Refer to Loss of Coolant in Engine Cooling.
