Circuit Description

The BCM controls the ground of the courtesy lamp relay on CKT 690. The BCM will ground the relay and turn ON the courtesy lamp if the following conditions exist:

    • The BCM receives a signal from a mini-wedge (door jamb) switch.
    • The BCM receives an RFA signal to unlock the doors from the remote control door lock receiver module.
    • The dome lamp switch is turned ON.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

To set B2618, the following conditions must be present:

    • Courtesy lamps ON.
    • CKT 690 is shorted to battery voltage.
    • The system voltage must be between 9.0-16.0 volts.
    • The above conditions must be met for 0.5 seconds.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The courtesy lights will not function.

Conditions for Clearing the MIL/DTC

    • This DTC will clear after a fault free courtesy lamp operation.
    • A history DTC will clear after 100 consecutive ignition cycles without a fault present.
    • Use a scan tool in order to clear history and current DTCs.

Diagnostic Aids

       Important: Use the appropriate probe from the J 35616 connector test adapter kit for any probing of the bussed electrical centers (BECs) in this table in order to avoid damage to the BECs.

    • Always perform the first DTC listed on the scan tool if more than 1 is displayed.
    • The scan tool must display DTC B2618 as a current code before performing diagnostics.
    • Perform a visual inspection for loose or poor connections at all related components
    • Refer to Intermittents and Poor Connections Diagnosis in Wiring Systems for intermittent and poor connections.

  1. This step tests for a short to battery voltage in CKT 690.

  2. This step inspects the courtesy lamp relay. By disconnecting the BCM connector, other DTCs will set.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  2. Verify that the dome defeat switch is in the OFF position.
  3. Open any door.
  4. Remove the courtesy lamp relay.
  5. Monitor the current DTCs with the scan tool.

  1. Monitor the current DTCs with the scan tool.
  2. Disconnect the blue BCM (C2) connector.

Locate and repair CKT 690 (GRY/BLK) for a short to battery between the blue BCM (C2) connector and the courtesy lamp relay (MBEC).

Replace the courtesy lamp relay, located in the mid bussed electrical center (MBEC).

  1. Replace the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement .
  2. Program the BCM with the proper calibrations. Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration .
  3. Perform the learn procedure.
