1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
2. With a scan tool select instrument panel cluster (IPC), data, and monitor the monitored coolant temperature.

Is the monitored coolant temperature an accurate representation of the engine temperature?

Go to Temperature vs Resistance

With a scan tool select instrument panel cluster (IPC), data, and command the check coolant temp message on.

Does the check coolant temp message turn ON and OFF when commanded?

Go to Engine Overheating

Go to Step 4

Replace the IPC. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement
