Did you perform the Instrument Cluster Diagnostic System Check?

Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.

Does the Cruise indicator illuminate in the IPC after the IPC displays test?

--

Go to Step 3

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Install a scan tool.
  3. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  4. With the scan tool, observe the Cruise Control parameter in the IPC data list.

Does the Cruise Lamp parameter display On?

--

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect the cruise control module.
  3. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  4. With a DMM, measure the voltage of the CRUISE ON indicator control circuit.

Does the voltage measure at approximately the specified voltage?

B+

Go to Step 11

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Install a scan tool.
  3. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  4. With the scan tool, Command the Cruise Control Lamp Test parameter ON, in the IPC Special Functions.

Does the Cruise indicator illuminate in the IPC?

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect the cruise control module.
  3. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  4. With a DMM, measure the voltage of the CRUISE ON indicator control circuit.

Does the voltage measure at approximately the specified voltage?

B+

Test the CRUISE ON indicator control circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Testing for Short to Ground and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the CRUISE ON indicator control circuit for a short to voltage. Refer to Testing for a Short to Voltage and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the CRUISE ON indicator control circuit for an open or for a high resistance. Refer to Testing for Short to Ground and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the VCM/PCM. Refer to Intermittents and Poor Connections Diagnosis and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the cruise control module. Refer to Cruise Control Module Replacement .

Replace the instrument panel cluster (IPC). Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.

Important: Program the replacement VCM/PCM.

Replace the VCM/PCM. Refer to the appropriate procedure:

    •  VCM Replacement/Programming in Engine Controls-4.3L
    •  Powertrain Control Module Replacement/Programming in Engine Controls-4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
